The key elements of this rule are described below.

Maximum Driving Hours – FMCSA retained the current 11-hour driving time limit, but placed a limit on the number of consecutive driving hours. No driving may occur if more than eight consecutive hours have passed since the last break of 30 minutes or more.

Restart – Any restart period must include two consecutive nighttime periods (from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.), and must be at least 34 consecutive hours long. Drivers are permitted to use the restart provision only once in any seven calendar days.

14 Consecutive Hour Day (now called Driving Window) – The rule retains a 14 consecutive hour driving window. With a 30 minute rest break, maximum on-duty time within a 14 hour window is 13.5 hours. No driving may occur after 14 consecutive hours since coming on duty; non-driving work is allowed past the 14 hour driving window.

Mandatory Rest Break – Drivers will not be permitted to drive if eight hours have passed since their last break of 30 minutes or more. (Only one break may be required depending upon time).

Off-Duty in A Parked CMV or In Passenger Seat – The rule allows drivers to record time spent in a parked CMV as off-duty time. Also, team drivers would be permitted to record up to two hours of time spent in the passenger seat of a CMV in operation as off-duty time, if it is just before or after an eight hour sleeper berth period.

Oilfield Exemption – Waiting time at an oil well or natural gas site will not count toward calculation of the 14 hour window but must be recorded as off-duty on a paper or electronic log.

Egregious Violations – A driver who exceeds, and/or a motor that allows a driver to exceed, the driving time limit by three hours or more be considered to have committed an egregious violation and be subject to the maximum civil penalties of $2,700 for drivers and $11,000 for motor carriers – for each offense.

Effective Date & Compliance Date – This rule will be effective in late February 2012, and the oilfield exemption change must be implemented by then. However, interstate motor carriers and drivers will not be required to comply with the remainder of the new rules (restart change, rest break requirements, etc.) until July 1, 2013.

Welcome To Trailwood!!!

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome:

Ed Webber- Chaska, MN #8297

Anthony Marsala- Princeton, MN #8300

Kenneth Fisher- Colombia Heights, MN #8319

Nick Booth- Apple Valley, MN #8264

Sean Pahl- Jordan, MN #8326

May you have a long and successful career with Trailwood!!

PERMIT BOOKS

I would like all drivers to take a look through their Permit Books and make sure that all of the permits are current.

Permits of major concern are:

Maryland Alcohol, 10/31/2012

South Dakota Alcohol, 12/31/2012

Indiana Alcohol, 09/29/2012

If you need copies of current permits please call me at 763-783-2007, or bring your book in and I will check it.

NOTICE

REMEMBER US DOT BAN ON HANDHELD CELL PHONES. THE FEDERAL CIVIL PENALTIES ARE UP TO $2,750 TO DRIVERS FOR EACH OFFENSE AND LOSS OF THEIR CDL FOR MULTIPLE OFFENSES.

LOG REVIEW

When completing your daily logs there are a couple of things that get overlooked, causing more work for our logging auditing department.

1. Please be sure to check the pre-trip and post-trip boxes on the bottom right corner of your daily log, in addition to writing it in the remarks area. Remember to show a minimum of 15 minutes for your pre-trip, as well as flagging the post-trip with the number of minutes spent on the post-trip and then complete the back of your log (don’t forget to sign the back of the log).

2. When you are off-duty and completing your off duty log, the date that goes on the log is the first day that you were off and if you were off more than one day, put the number of days in the box at the bottom of your log. Draw a continuous line through the grid on line “one” and put 24 in the total-hours box (do not add up the number of hours by the days off, the log scanner will do that).

3. Your daily log consists of three (3) pages and you are required to use all three (3) pages. The top cover goes to the long auditing department, the 1st blue copy goes to Darrell, in the shop (regardless if there are defects that need addressing), and the 2nd blue copy is your record of duty.

If you have any questions, please give me a call at (877)897-6668 ex. 2007 or stop by so we can discuss it.

Thanks in Advance!!!!

Welcome To The New Trailwood Transportation and Warehousing Website

Newsletter

logistics

Minnesota

Mpls

Saint Paul

shipments

transportation

trucking

warehousing

Welcome to the brand new Trailwood Transportation and Warehousing website!
