How
Awake Are You?
Everybody has a biological
clock. It tells you when you are hungry, when you are most energetic,
and when you are sleepy. Research shows that there are two times a day
when people are most likely to feel sleepy. One is in the afternoon
from 2:00
pm to 5:00 pm. The other is in the early morning from 2:00 am to 6:00
am. Most truck drivers cannot avoid driving at those times.
To be a
safer
driver, become aware of your own biological clock. Know what time of
day you are most alert and when you are most drowsy. If you know when
you are most likely to feel drowsy, you can take extra care during those
times. Here are eight statements, provided by the Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Administration (FMCSA) about fatigue and sleep. Answer - True or
False.
Questions:
1.
Coffee overcomes the effects of drowsiness while driving.
2. I can tell when I am
going to go to sleep.
3. Rolling down a window or
singing along with the radio will keep me awake.
4. I'm a safe driver, so it
does not matter if I am sleepy.
5. You can stockpile sleep
on the weekends.
6. Most adults need at
least seven hours of sleep each night.
7. Being sleepy makes you
misperceive things.
8. Wandering, disconnected
thoughts are a warning sign of driver fatigue.
